Pairwise-nonrecurrent sequences

چکیده

A new class of integer sequences is introduced in which any pair of identical symbols in the sequence, separated a certain number of digits apart, appears in the sequence, with that separation, at most once. For any given sequence length n and number of distinct symbols used, m, such a sequence, if it exists, is not unique; our attention is thus focused on the lexographically first such sequence available in each case. Three variations of this class of sequence are considered: infinite, finite, and periodic, and two open questions in Ramsey theory are identified. Application of such sequences to the matrix coloring problem is also explored briefly.

gpALIGNER: A Fast Algorithm for Global Pairwise Alignment of DNA Sequences

Bioinformatics, through the sequencing of the full genomes for many species, is increasingly relying on efficient global alignment tools exhibiting both high sensitivity and specificity. Many computational algorithms have been applied for solving the sequence alignment problem. Dynamic programming, statistical methods, approximation and heuristic algorithms are the most common methods appli...

A DNA Replication Mechanism for Generating Nonrecurrent Rearrangements Associated with Genomic Disorders

The prevailing mechanism for recurrent and some nonrecurrent rearrangements causing genomic disorders is nonallelic homologous recombination (NAHR) between region-specific low-copy repeats (LCRs). For other nonrecurrent rearrangements, nonhomologous end joining (NHEJ) is implicated. Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease (PMD) is an X-linked dysmyelinating disorder caused most frequently (60%-70%) by non...

A Rare Variation of Inferior Laryngeal Nerve: Nonrecurrent Laryngeal Nerve.

A nonrecurrent laryngeal nerve variant of the inferior laryngeal nerve is very rarely seen, and surgeons should keep it in mind during thyroid surgery. Preoperative findings, like situs invertus and dysphagia lusoria, may be suggestive of a nonrecurrent laryngeal nerve. However, these findings always have not to be together with nonrecurrent laryngeal nerve, like our case.

Latencies longer than 3.5 ms after vagus nerve stimulation does not exclude a nonrecurrent inferior laryngeal nerve

BACKGROUND It has recently been reported that a signal latency shorter than 3.5 ms after electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve signify a nonrecurrent course of the inferior laryngeal nerve. We present a patient with an ascending nonrecurrent inferior laryngeal nerve. In this patient, the stimulation latency was longer than 3.5 ms. CASE PRESENTATION A 74-years old female underwent redo sur...

[Preoperative CT diagnosis of right nonrecurrent inferior laryngeal nerve, report of a case].

BACKGROUND The nonrecurrent inferior laryngeal nerve is an anomaly associated with the absence of the brachiocephalic artery (BCA) and the presence of arteria lusoria. METHODS The preoperative CT scans from 290 patients (9 nonrecurrent, 281 recurrent) were retrospectively reviewed. We identified the BCA or the arteria lusoria, and classified the relationship between the right subclavian arter...
